Instagram, the popular photo and video sharing app owned by Meta, has announced the addition of numerous new filters, marking their first major filter update in quite some time. The update includes an impressive 25 new filters on iOS, ranging from subtle color edits to more expressive styles.
The new filters, which include options such as “Fade”, “Boost”, “Gritty”, “Color leak”, “Zoom blur”, “Wide angle”, and “Wavy”, allow users to significantly alter their original images beyond just color and tone adjustments. This move is seen as an effort by Instagram to extend its editing capabilities, potentially reducing the need for users to switch to other apps like VSCO and Picsart for more advanced edits.
In addition to the new filters, Instagram has also introduced several improvements for its Reels feature. These include testing the ability to scale, crop, and rotate individual clips, as well as the addition of undo and redo buttons. Ten new English text-to-speech voices have been added for users in select countries, along with a few new font options.
Furthermore, Instagram is testing a feature that allows users to create custom stickers using their own photos and videos, or from eligible content seen on Instagram. This feature is based on the company’s Segment Anything AI model.
Other changes include a streamlined view for drafts, quicker access to the audio page in Reels, and more data for creators. Over the coming months, creators will be able to see real-time viewer counts on their Reels.
These updates come as part of Instagram’s ongoing efforts to enhance the user experience and provide more creative tools for content creation. Users are encouraged to explore these new features and filters, and to use them to create more personalized and engaging content.
